The District Convention is part of the biennial reorganization of local GOP organizations around the state. Every two years, Republicans in each city and county in Virginia elect a new local GOP committee and party chairman. They also select delegates to a Republican Convention for that Congressional District.

The principal order of business at this year's 8th District Convention is to elect the District Republican Chairman for the 2006-08 term. Featured speakers at this year's convention are U.S. Sen. George Allen, State Attorney General Bob McDonnell and State Party Chairman Kate Obenshain Griffin. The two Republican candidates for Congress in the 8th -- Mark Ellmore and Tom O'Donoghue -- will participate in a forum, just a few weeks before the June 13 Congressional primary. The convention also provides an excellent opportunity for Republicans from across the District to meet with one another.

Convention delegates:
Any registered voter in the 8th District, who is in accord with the principles of the Republican party, was eligible to participate as a delegate to the District Convention. In order to attend as a voting delegate, individuals needed to sign up through their local Republican Committee by the local filing deadline.

But even if you did not sign up as a voting delegate, you are still welcome to attend the Convention!
