More maps of Falls Church:

From its founding as a small crossroads community more than 300 years ago, the City of Falls Church has retained its distinct identity, despite rapid growth and suburbanization of Northern Virginia. The city includes historic attractions, stately neighborhoods, and growing businesses. Falls Church is an independent city, not part of any county, and one of the smallest in geographic size (just 2.2 square miles).

History: Falls Church was first settled around 1700 in Fairfax County. It was incorporated as a town in 1875. The town originally extended into Arlington (then known as "Alexandria County"), but in 1938, the Arlington portion withdrew from the town. In 1948, Falls Church withdrew from Fairfax County and became an independent city.

NOTE: Most areas with "Falls Church" mailing addresses are actually in Fairfax County, not in the City of Falls Church. Also, the "East Falls Church" neighborhood is in Arlington County, not in the City of Falls Church.

Population: 10,000 (as of 2000 census)
Registered voters: 7600 (total), 7200 (active) (as of Dec. 2007)
Wards: 5 (see list)
